Cedar Rapids Beer Nuts
General Meeting Minutes
2018 January 18

Meeting was called to order at 8:00 pm with 23 members in attendance.

Reports

(none)

Old Business

Name Change and Rebranding
Legal agreement with Beer Nuts Snacks has been reached, signed and mailed.
A meeting of the cabinet with Fusion Farm to work on brand strategy is being planned.
The three top nominated names are Cedar Rapids Brewers Society (CRBS), Cedar Rapids Area Fermentation Team (CRAFT), and Cedar Rapids Area Society of Homebrewers (CRASH).
The results of ballot voting to select a leading favored candidate name is as follows: CRBS: 9, CRAFT: 6, CRASH: 5, and three write-ins.
The cabinet will go forwards with these results to build a brand name and strategy with help from Fusion Farm.
Plan is to have legal paperwork, brand strategy and graphics completed in time for a public relaunch coordinated with the Benz Beer Festival in May.

Big Grove Wort Rally
    Fundraiser event benefiting FilmScene.
    Wort was distributed in December.
Pouring/Tasting event at the Big Grove location in Iowa City on January 20.
Other beers are welcome too; a Herokuapp event has been set up.

Homebrew Competitions
Watch the club forums for details and announcements regarding club competitions.
    January - Winter Seasonal (30C)
    March - Dunkles Weissbier (10B)
July - Czech Pale Lager (3A)
    September - American Amber (19A)
Also of interest are other local and regional competitions. Watch the forums for details on these as they emerge:
    Linn County Fair
Iowa Brewers Union (IBU) competition (Des Moines)

New Business

Membership Logistics
A roster of membership is legally required and will help us maintain better communication with our members. Roster will include name, phone number, email, and preferred means of social media contact.
Cabinet agreed that dues are again $20 for 2018. This will be collected by cash, check, credit card starting at the January general meeting or online credit card via Square.

Grain Order
We are coordinating with Iowa Brewing Company again this year.
A list of available malts and pricing has been posted on the forums. Base malts only; please support our local homebrew supply store, BIY Homebrew, for other ingredients and supplies.
New this year is paying the estimated cost upfront at time of order. This is intended to speed logistics at pickup and keep the club from floating the cost of your grain.
Pickup is required on the day of delivery to Iowa Brewing Company. They cannot store your grain.

Participation Awards
Cabinet agreed that five $50 gift cards to BIY will be given in recognition of participation in the 2017 happy hour pourings at Lion Bridge Brewing. Selection of the five awardees will be made by random drawing.

The cabinet agreed that the location of cabinet meeting should be that of the next month’s general meeting when logistically possible.

Here is what I have posted:

January 2018 30C Winter Seasonal

April 2018 10B Dunkel Weiss

July 2018 3A Czech Pale Lager

October 2018 19A American Amber

I am sure the last turn-in is in Oct.; as we work hard to have all of the results ready for the November membership meeting and the awarding of the coveted Tap Handle.

And as per Pat. McCusker, I have agreed to collect the Mead entries if Pat can not make the March Meeting.
In the Fridge/On Tap: Salted Caramel Porter
In the barrel/conditioning:
In the bucket: P-nut Brittle Ale, Blueberry and Blk Rasp. Mead; Tangerine Wheat; Spont. Funk; Swarthy Beagle
In the queue: Pils Urquell Clone, Traditional Irish Red Ale

I'd like to make a grain order, but I can't seem to find the grain list on the forum. Can someone please let me know how to find it, and who I talk to about my order. Thanks, -Kurt Kraus
