Counter flow wort ciller

Postby bf514921 » Fri Apr 25, 2014 10:25 am

So does anyone us one, do they like it, can it double as a herms coil. I was looking at this one http://www.williamsbrewing.com/STAINLES ... P3452.aspx. from Williams brewing. Looks like I could easily fit in my system.

That's cool I was thinking of doing the same thing already have pumps and other goodies plus with this I don't have to worry about my immersion coil

I love using my CFC as a heat-exchanger for heating (mash) or cooling (post-boil). Do not try this with a plate chiller. The tube-in-a-tube style is damn near impossible to clog, which is very important when you're pushing grain chunks through it at the beginning of the mash.

That's is exactly why I avoided the plate filler, and went tube in tube. Easier to clean and less likely to clog.
Do you have any issues with it being mounted sideways and cleaning?

No. Post-boil I pump water to rinse then recirculate PBW or Oxy for 20 mins. I mounted the CFC with clamps so I could pick it up to drain. You need to rock it in a circular motion about 8 times to get all the water out. Once it's mostly empty, I put bits of paper towel in the openings so the water can evaporate but bugs won't get in. I do this last step for all the ports on my kettles, pumps, etc. It has made a significant improvement in the cleanliness of my equipment.

That's a good idea for keeping bugs out, luckily there are not to many bugs in my basement, I did order one, so more shiny stainless coming for me. I really like the dual action heat cool and not having to put my immersion chiller in my kettel

I have been thinking about this as well while day dreaming about what I would change about my current system. Likely won't happen until electric version 2.0

if you look at my boil coil thread the stainless counterflow wort chiller is in the picture, i highly recoment this style if you recirculate, with a pump its great.
